Seeing the beauty in nature

Make it stand out.

  • Dream it.

It all begins with an idea. Gardening is a great hobby .Be inspired by the gardens you visit. Your local library has many good gardening book and magazines.

  • Think about it.

Now you have some ideas, begin to plan your garden. What grows in your area? Start to develop your soil, pay attention to site orientation. How much sun and wind does each area get? Is the ground waterlogged, if so think about drainage.

Take a walk and see what grows well in your neighbourhood.

  • Start doing it

Now the fun begins, putting thoughts into actions. Creat your garden.

  • Growing gardens in our area

We live in a region where there are four distinct seasons. Usually spring is alive with new growth and blossom and a fair amount of wind. Temperatures can be chilly one day and very warm the next. We have frosts up until October and occasionally in early November. Summer is hot and long, with at least one week in the mid 40’C. Humidity is relatively low, unless we have a summer thunder storm. Great weather for fruit and vegetable growing. Autumn arrives with stable warm days and colourful leaves on deciduous trees. Finally winter comes with rain and some frosts. A lot of different plants grow here, although tropical plants struggle with our cold winters. They are best left for indoors or hot houses.

Recently fruit fly has been a problem in our area. Remember to adequately dispose of infected fruit and think about pruning your fruit trees so that they can be netted easily with fruit fly nets.
